Disappointments: Fumos You

Fumos is the new spell on Pottermore, released as part of Snape's birthday... I want to call it a celebration but it was much sadder, more like a whimper than a bang. Anyways, rant after the break.

Fumos, not a charm so it doesn't affact the new dueling badge, and from my understanding it maxes out at 116. Now allow me to be among the many that say that releasing this spell, not but a month after the big "winter un-wrap" seems a bit like a cop-out. This spell has nothing special about it. It is dull. It is boring. It exists only to be another option to lose against the big three spells of Jelly legs, Expelliarmus and Petrificus Totalus (I may see a trend here that the spells most powerful in duels are those used by the trio). There is not much chance for users to develop signature spells still, and Fumos really could have been joined as part of the other spells, and then featured for a day on Pottermore.

This is what pisses people off regarding games. There will be a release and not one month later there is an update, usually for money (hooray for Pottermore being free) but the changes make one wonder WHY the releases are so minimal, the fixes could have been added on to the main game. This is a problem I hope that Pottermore does not decide to make a habit of, though the shorter time between releases makes me half think that we will see Deathly Hallows as the prize for the next house cup, with something regarding love released next month, flowers to be collected in March and April with something else new, a spell perhaps, in May.

Maybe this wouldn't even be a bad problem to have considering that Pottermore for the most part is going to suffer user fatigue. A monthly update might not be bad, though if they are all like this, it certainly will not be meaningful and will put more stress on the Pottermore fatigue. So what do you think? Was this a half decent addition? Or should Pottermore just try and ride it all over with a slow burn.

For our next disappointment... the removal of comments.

  1. I do not like this spell and serious duellers will maybe use it once just to try it out and then forget about it. I would rather see a spell on par with the big 3 to give varied interest and not cause " burn out" and boredom. We could use more games with prizes to keep people interested
