Doxycide Run-Down

Doxycide is now the second-most unique potion on Pottermore after Polyjuice potion, and as such it's deserving of a quick entry.

For the full Doxycide, it is currently the second most expensive potion to brew per brew due to the competition with the Shrinking Solution, it's twin. Doxycide has one recollectable ingredient per part, and it is broken up like Polyjuice Potion. In its brewing, it almost seems to be a potion intermediate with difficulty comparing it to Polyjuice, but actually rewards the brewer with points. Furthermore, at the time of it's release, Doxycide was the most point-lucrative potion in terms of time as for a mere 6 or so minutes, doxycide could enable a person to gain 9 points from the brewing.

It was because of this that I, and many others, called Doxycide the brewer's "dueling" as it earned points much faster for a brewer. However, Doxycide was changed, then making it the LEAST time effective 9 point potion when including processing time. Now this is an aspect of Pottermore that has only been done once before, in Beta, with most potions keeping their brew times and point values after introduction.

For this I will hypothesize that Doxycide's short brew time was accidental, and most likely a slip of the keystroke. Now why don't I think that this was in response to grievances users aired? It would be a two part experience. One, I believe that the proper response to the grievances would be a reworking of potion points in general. Furthermore, while I would like to accept my head-cannon that doxycide is rather quick to make to quickly harvest the little harpies.

After the second change of Pottermore to potions, the potions time changes then put Doxycide near the middle of the pack, changing it to one of the more time efficient potions, but certainly not the best anymore.

Though to close, I will add that Doxycide is odd in one other aspect. While the Chamber potions could be "used" allowing collection when they were brewed, the obvious chapter (doxycide from order).

Join us next time as I go over a very odd potion... the Cure for Boils.
