First Impression: The Timeline

Well I was wondering how Pottermore could tie into Fantastic Beasts.... I guess this is it.
So, the timeline is well, an interesting addition to Pottermore. Given that favorites seem a bit outmoded, it makes sense, though I'm not sure if this bodes well for the future. We're given little blurbs, many of which I think we've heard before, and there's not much there of substance compared to the actual read abouts that we've gotten in the past.

Further making this a bit more awkward, there are various names left off of the list for one reason or another (please skip through here if you wish):

  • Grindlewald
  • Voldemort
  • Nicolas Flamel
  • Fudge
  • Scrimgour
  • Kingsley
Really, even going off of the timeline, there are places to grow. Hitting the name taking you to a further in depth read about page from the books if they were featured. As a matter of fact, linking to further pages discribing the individuals would be a godsend. If we want any way to hear more about Newt, and Fantastic Beasts, a link to his "page" detailing a few "journal" entries much like the Daily Prophet could show a few ties to the films, acting as ways to see a sort of preview or epilogue to the films.

Aside from that, there are areas that appear to look like it will open up to growth, from the timeline's link being "History of Magic" on the map, to how there is currently just one icon "witches and wizards" for the timeline, with an idea that perhaps there would be other icons, for events, goblins, battles, and the like.

The question is now, will this go the way of the Daily Prophet, or will it actually become a bigger feature on the site that we would miss if it were to go? Hopefully we will find out soon enough.

  1. It could, hopefully too, lead to more Frog Cards, as the descriptions of the ones who already have a card are only copy-pasted from there.
I do agree that wizards are missing, who should have been there. And above all, I'll say that I'm really frustrated at the few info about Muggle-known wizards like Merlin. Or others who are described in the books. As you say, a link to further pages giving extra info would be a great gift.
I really do hope that their timeline would act as a spinal chord to give us a Real History of Magic book. And why not, some day, A History of Magic, by Bathilda Bagshot? We already have Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts, after all...
Hopes are not high my end though... and the most likely thing is it going exactly like the Daily Prophet.... :( ... Tot.
