So Pottermore in the past has changed dueling, the mythic change in beta, where dueling was apparently too complex, which was then changed to the dueling that was mainstream for the next two house cup competitions, later changed to the "nerfed" dueling that we saw up till the last house cup and now this glorious... thing. So what about this?
Well from a bit of dueling, this is the first bit of facts that we know:
- Duels change circle speed randomly
- letters in the middle change randomly (first letter and last letter will remain the same always)
- 130 and higher is now a "decent" score
- All spell maximums are still in place, thus full body bind is still the most effective spell to use.
- Most individuals are easily beaten if you're in the 130 range, though some are easily in the 140 range when casting.
So I know you may be having difficulty coping with it dear reader, so here's a few simple tips to help you.
- ZOOM: zoom in to 150% or more, this will help you see the circles a bit easier, and you can adjust and keep going easily
- If you can, adjust your display settings. This varies from system to system, and the goal is to adjust your settings till you can see the outer part of the ring easier. It's a faint ring, and you can keep watch on it.
- If in doubt of your reaction time. Err on being early rather than late. As a ring can move quickly, this can help with consistency, though your score will suffer.
- If you can, use a mouse/trackpad/touchpad. This way you don't so much have to worry about the letters to press, so much as pressing them in the right time, though this will require more motion and investment on your part.
After all that what now?... This change is probably a good one. Captcha isn't needed any longer as it should be next to impossible to cheat now in any profitable way. Duels have equalized and now don't really favor many people except for those with good eyesight and reaction time. This still isn't what I think is the best methodology though, as now, all those that couldn't duel, have to brew for points, as we see a shift in activity as more people take up cauldrons while they set down their wands. But again, this could be made better with either a change to potions to allow them to compete with the point-per-hour capability of duels, or a new activity all together for points that will allow older individuals and non-experienced gamers to compete and contribute to their houses.
While this isn't the best change Pottermore could have made to dueling, it's certainly an interesting one that addresses a lot of the major issues I've had in the past regarding cheating and balance between veterans and newbies. If they add in a component to account for strategy and growth in a proper way, this may become a game that people could enjoy much more.
There are three expansions speed: slow, medium, high (till now) - Hap Malfoy
ReplyDeleteThe slow circles are killing me. I keep clicking too fast, before they expand all the way. I hate you slow circles.
